McDowell, Virginia: May 5, 2007
Greetings to Margaret, Judy, Pauline, and their families! I have posted some photographs from the day we met in McDowell, as the Battle of McDowell was raging fiercely in the backyard of my grandmother's childhood home. There are two main links on this page. The first brings up a set of web-friendly photographs (reasonably small image files, suitable for viewing online). The second gives you access to the full-size images, in case you'd like to download them. The full-size images are too big for convenient viewing online, however.
I have also put up a few photos of Sarah Louise Alexander, my grandmother's cousin, who remembers Charlesie Peterson when she lived in McDowell. Since Charlesie evidently moved from McDowell about 90 years ago, it is rather extraordinary that you've found someone who remembers Charlesie from her childhood home.
Finally, I've included a few random images from around Highland County, whose beauty never fails to inspire our imaginations.
Hints for viewing photographs: For most web browsers in Windows, the "F11" key toggles a full-screen view that makes viewing large images more convenient. Also, if you're a Firefox user, "SHIFT-ALT-N" will take you to the next image, "SHIFT-ALT-P" to the previous image, and "SHIFT-ALT-U" up to the index page.
Feel free to wander around a bit on our web site, although it's really mostly just photographs from gatherings of family and friends, notably a lot of pictures from trips to Staunton, the hometown of my mother and uncle. |
